Popovici, Garcia-Cassani Honored By SUNYAC

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Track & Field Men's Indoor Track Runner of the Year while head coach Chris Popovici swept men's and women's Coach of the Year awards for the second-straight season, announced Wednesday. 

Garcia-Cassani was tabbed the top men's track athlete in the conference for the second-straight year. He anchored the Knights national champion distance medley relay (9:56.63) before finishing second in the 3,000 (8:18.9) for his 12th career All-America award. He also won the 3,000 and anchored the first-place DMR at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Championships after winning the 3,000 at the SUNYAC Championships. 

Popovici guided both squads to their ninth SUNYAC Championship in program history. Also named the Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year for the second year in a row, Popovici saw his women win the inaugural All-Atlantic Region Indoor Championship before tying for 14th at the NCAA Division III Championships. The Knights men tied for ninth at NCAAs after tying for second at All-Atlantic Regionals. Twenty individuals were named All-Region, while 18 national qualifiers brought home 12 All-America certificates.
