GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Kaz Sampson took first in the 100 breast as the Knights took down nearby rival Rochester, 181-112, in the their final dual meet of the season at Alumni Pool Friday night.
Sampson earned the victory in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.89 as Geneseo earned the top mark in 15 out of 16 events. Sophomore Will Eng finished the 100 free in 48.41 to take the win. Junior Matt Mattera won the 1650 free while first-year Sean McClellan took the 500 free and 200 fly. Junior Mitchell Phelps won the 200 free and 200 back and contributed to the team's first-place 200 medley relay team, joining Sampson and John Wilson and sophomore Harry Harkins to finish in 1:36.28. Harkins went on to win the 50 free while Wilson nabbed first in the 100 fly. First-year Corey Wirth swept the diving events, scoring 492.80 in the one-meter and 547.40 in the three-meter.
The Knights improve to 6-1 in dual meets and will compete again on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they host the Geneseo Invitational at Erie Community College in Buffalo.
