Men's Lacrosse Falls At Cortland, 16-4, In SUNYAC Semifinals

CORTLAND, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo fell in the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament, 16-4, at Cortland. 

Geneseo first-year head coach Nick Fiorentino led the Knights to their first postseason appearance in five seasons, clinching the fourth seed for the tournament while finishing with the highest win total (9-6) in seven seasons.

The top-seeded Red Dragons (15-1) scored five-unanswered in the first quarter and five more in the second to build a 10-0 halftime lead. Junior midfielder Alex Leuze notched the first goal of the second half to put the Knights on the board at the 11:51 mark 

Cortland tacked on six more goals to close the third quarter with a 16-1 lead. Junior attackman Ryan Kelly, senior midfielder Dane Bentley and sophomore attackman Zachary DeBottis each found the net in the final period, but it was the Red Dragons moving on to Saturday's SUNYAC Championship game where they will be in the hunt for their ninth-consecutive title and 13th overall in the 15-year history of the tournament. Geneseo is the only other team in the conference to win the SUNYAC Tournament, defeating Cortland in the 2004 and 2007 finals.
