Empey Hat Trick Leads No. 2 Geneseo Past No. 3 Oswego, 9-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Tyson Empey netted a hat trick to lead the second-ranked Knights to a 9-1 victory over No. 3 Oswego on Saturday night at Ira S. Wilson Arena. Geneseo scored a program-record seven power-play goals, one shy of the NCAA Division III single-game record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Empey opened the scoring under two minutes into the game, burying a pass from junior forward Levi Wunder with a one-timer past the glove of the Oswego netminder. He scored his second later in the period, this time a power play goal on a one-timer off a nifty pass from sophomore defenseman Chris Perna
  • Junior defenseman Matthew Doran scored in the final minute of the first period, burying a power play one-timer from the point to make it 3-0 just before the first intermission.
  • Senior defenseman Tanner Salsberry scored the only goal of the second period, tallying a power play score to make it 4-0.
  • The Knights delivered five goals in the third period, including four power-play scores, to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Oswego converted on a 5-on-3 chance late in the game for its only goal.
