No. 4 Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down Morrisville, 8-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Stephen Collins totaled two goals and two assists while first-year forward Conlan Keenan and David Szmyd each added two goals apiece to lead the No. 4 Knights to an 8-1 victory over visiting Morrisville, Saturday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey action.

Geneseo (13-4-3, 7-3-1 SUNYAC) scored the lone goal of the first period Collins caused a turnover in the Morrisville zone that ended up on the stick of junior defender Pat Condon. Collins got the puck back at the right wing boards and circled around the zone before snapping a shot inside the left post with 10:36 on the clock.

The Knights scored four of the next five goals en route to a 5-1 lead by the end of the second period. Keenan knocked down a Morrisville clearing attempt to first-year forward Andrew Romano, who gave the puck back to Keenan for a short-range shot at 16:09. Collins got free for a scoring shot in the middle of the Morrisville created by senior forwards Connor Anthoine and RJ Burns at 9:14. He later won a face-off in the Geneseo zone and charged down the left boards to feed senior forward Trevor Hills with a pretty cross for a goal with 2:31 on the clock.

Morrisville (3-15-3, 2-8-2 SUNYAC) got on the board with 33 seconds to play in the period on a tally by sophomore defender David Landau, but the Knights tacked on one more goal with seven seconds left after Keenan scored off a Collins feed from the right wing to cap the decisive run.

Geneseo found the net three more times in the third to put the game away. Junior defenseman Braxton Bilous scored his first collegiate goal on a shot from the top of the slot on a nice feed from behind the net by Burns at 14:01. Szmyd tallied a pair of short-handed tallies in the last five minutes of the game, including a great individual effort to steal a puck off a Morrisville skater at the Geneseo blue line and score unassisted on the ensuing breakaway chance.

Senior goalie Matt Leon stopped 24 of 25 Mustang shots to preserve the victory.

Geneseo will play the first of two games on the road, starting at Brockport next Friday (Feb. 3) at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Fredonia (Feb. 10).
