Men's Ice Hockey Picked First In SUNYAC Preseason Poll

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team was picked first in the 2016-17 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Preseason Poll, announced Thursday.

The Knights received 61 points, two better than second place Plattsburgh, as voted on by the head coaches of the league.

Geneseo finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 20-5-6 record, including its first SUNYAC Championship in 10 years while advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament Frozen Four for the second time in three seasons.

In three SUNYAC Tournament games, the Knights out-scored their opponents by a conference-record 17-3 margin, including a 7-1 victory at top-seeded Plattsburgh in the championship game.

After NCAA Tournament home wins over Salve Regina, 7-1, and Williams, 2-1, the Knights' run came to a close against eventual national champion Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the national semifinals, which were played at historic Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Geneseo kicks off the 2016-17 season on Friday, Oct. 28, with a road contest at Nazareth. The Knights' first home game of the season is slated for Friday, Nov. 4 versus SUNYAC foe Cortland.
