GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior defender Julia Kim was voted to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III North Atlantic Region First Team, announced Wednesday.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year anchored a defensive unit that allowed a conference-low 20 goals and a 1.24 goals against average this fall, including six shutouts. Midway through the season, Geneseo put together a streak of four-consecutive shutouts and nearly 350 minutes spanning six matches without allowing a goal. The Knights also finished in the top-30 nationally in scoring margin, out-scoring their opponents by 1.75 goals per game.
In her second season with the team after transferring from Division I Albany, Kim finished fourth on the team with 11 points on five goals and an assist. She was credited with the game-winning tally in the squad's 5-2 victory at Keuka (Sept. 19) and was credited with both of the Knights' goals in their 3-2 setback to New Paltz in the SUNYAC Tournament Semifinals to land All-Tournament recognition.
Six Geneseo players have now been named first-team all-region a combined nine times in program history.
Geneseo finished the season with a 9-7 mark under first-year head coach Margaret McConnell, including a 4-2 SUNYAC record to clinch its ninth-consecutive postseason appearance. Seeded fourth for the SUNYAC Tournament, the Knights came up short, 3-2, in their semifinal matchup at top-seeded and eventual champion New Paltz.
