GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo field hockey coach Jess Seren was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, announced Wednesday.
Seren led the Knights to the 2016 SUNYAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2010 and for only the second time in program history.
Now in her ninth season on the Geneseo sidelines, Seren has guided the Knights to an 11-9 record, including a 10-1 mark in their last 11 matches. After starting the season with one win in its first nine games, the squad won eight consecutive matches for the second-longest winning streak in team history.
Seeded third for the SUNYAC Tournament with a 4-2 league mark, the Knights upset second-seeded New Paltz, 1-0, on the road in the SUNYAC Tournament Semifinals before taking down visiting four-seed Oneonta, 3-2, in overtime last Saturday to win the conference crown.
The winningest coach in the 20-year history of the program, Seren owns a 103-68 record heading into Wednesday's NCAA Division III Tournament first-round match-up at Keene State (N.H.). She became the first Geneseo coach to achieve 100 career victories in a 1-0 victory at Utica (Oct. 20) during the season.
