Field Hockey Defeats Houghton, 4-1, For Sixth-Straight Win

HOUGTON, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Cara Stafford scored three goals to lead the Knights to a 4-1 victory at Houghton, Tuesday. The victory was the sixth-straight for Geneseo.

Houghton got on the board in the fourth minute to open the scoring, but junior midfielder Giovanna Fasanello answered just over three minutes later off an assist from senior defender Liz Doherty to tie the game.

From there it was Stafford and her hat-trick leading the way to victory. She scored off a Fasanello feed in the 27th minute as the visitors carried a 2-1 lead into intermission.

Stafford then cashed in an assist from sophomore midfielder Maria Dillingham in the 51st minute before scoring off a feed from junior forward Emma Dempsey in the 52nd minute to put the game out of reach.

Junior goalie Nicole Gregg was credited with eight saves as the Knights have only allowed three goals during their current winning streak.

Geneseo returns to action on Thursday, taking on host Utica at 7:00 p.m. in the third of five road games to finish the regular season.
