St. John Fisher Bests Field Hockey, 4-1

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Giovanna Fasanello scored her fourth goal of the season but it was visiting St. John Fisher breaking a 1-1 halftime tie with three unanswered goals to take down the Knights, 4-1, Wednesday night. 

Geneseo got on the board in the 18th minute after Fasanello scored off a short rebound in front of the Cardinal cage after the keeper had fallen down making the initial save to give the Knights the lead. 

St. John Fisher evened the score less than two minutes later on a penalty corner attempt after sophomore forward Lauren Fazio tipped a shot into the net from close range. 

St. John Fisher broke the tie in the opening minutes of the second half after junior forward Emily Markarian scored on a long shot from the top-right corner of the penalty circle off a feed from first-year midfielder Lindsay Scott during a penalty corner attempt in the 39th minute. 

The Cardinals tallied two more goals in the final seven minutes of regulation to seal the win. Fazio received a short pass from Scott at the top-right corner of the circle and flipped a shot on goal that made its way through a crowd and inside the left post in the 64th minute. Senior midfielder Nicole Morgan finished off a penalty corner attempt in the 67th minute to finish off the victory. 

St. John Fisher sophomore goalie Ashley Maynard was credited with seven saves to earn the victory despite Geneseo out-shooting the visitors by a 14-10 margin. 

The Knights hit the road for the first time in three matches to face Elmira, Saturday (Oct. 1) at 1:00 p.m.
