GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey squad officially announced the upcoming schedule for the 2016 season. The Knights, under the direction of ninth-year head coach Jess Seren, will play seven home games during the campaign while looking for their seventh-consecutive postseason appearance.
"With a strong core group of returners and a solid class of incoming players, I'm excited to see this group rise to the challenge and face some great competition early on as we prepare for our strong SUNYAC opponents," said Seren. "We'll be tested right from the start as we open at Vassar, which owns the nation's second-longest home winning streak along with nationally-ranked William Smith and Skidmore along the way."
After kicking off the campaign on Friday, Sept. 2 against the host Brewers in the first round of the Betty Richey Tournament, the Knights will take on either Smith or Manhattanville in the second round the next day.
Geneseo will host William Smith in the home-opener (Sept. 7) before heading to Skidmore (Sept. 10). After a visit by Hamilton (Sept. 13), the Knights will start play in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) with a trip to Cortland (Sept. 16).
Geneseo will start off a three-match homestand opposite Oneonta (Sept. 23), before hosting defending SUNYAC Champion New Paltz (Sept. 24) and St. John Fisher (Sept. 28) to close the month.
October will start with a trip to Elmira (Oct. 1) followed by a home date with Nazareth (Oct. 5) before closing out SUNYAC play at Morrisville (Oct. 7), at home against Brockport (Oct. 12) and at Oswego (Oct. 15).
Trips to Houghton (Oct. 18), Utica (Oct. 20), Keuka (Oct. 26) and Rochester (Oct. 28) will close the month prior to the start of the SUNYAC Tournament (Nov. 2).
