CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo equestrian team posted a strong finish at their final show before IHSA Regionals, placing third at St. Lawrence on Sunday to build momentum for the postseason.
Sophomore Cheyenne Otto placed first in the novice flat, while first-year Gillian Berardi took first in the walk trot and sophomore Lauren Kaehler earned a blue ribbon in the advanced walk trot canter to lead the Knights' point riders.
Senior Samantha Branch placed fourth in both the novice over fences and open flat while senior Sydney Hollasch took fifth in the intermediate flat. Senior Alishah Bhimani placed fifth in the intermediate over fences while first-year Katy Munn finished fifth in the open over fences to close out the Knights' point riders.
Senior Nicole Solazzo also earned a blue-ribbon finish, placing first in the advanced walk trot canter.
Geneseo will send eight riders to IHSA Regionals, hosted by St. Lawrence, on March 30. Solazzo, Kaehler and senior Megan Pierpoint each qualified to compete in walk trot canter, while junior Catherine Fedor and senior Sydney Hollasch earned entries in the novice flat. Cheyenne Otto will compete in the novice fences, Munn will compete in the open flat and fences while senior Alishah Bhimani will look to return to IHSA Zones in the intermediate flat and fences.
