GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior Elise Ramirez was voted the 2019 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while juniors Sean McAneny and Caroline McGuigan landed Men's Outdoor Track & Field and Women's Lacrosse honors, respectively.
Ramirez closed her Geneseo career with a runner-up finish in the 5,000 (17:07.34) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships for her third All-America citation before graduating with a 3.70 grade point average majoring in biology last month. A 2019 Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, she was voted the Atlantic Region and SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Runner of the Year after a spring that included running the nation's sixth-fastest 1,500 time and winning the SUNYAC 5,000 Championship. Ramirez' standout senior campaign included 2018 USTFCCCA Atlantic Region and SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year honors last fall after winning individual titles at both championship meets. She also finished an All-American seventh in the 5,000 during the NCAA Indoor Championships after placing 25th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Phi Beta Kappa inductee also swept the SUNYAC Women's Indoor Track & Field and Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
McAneny punctuated his junior campaign with a 13th-place finish in the 1,500 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships after winning the SUNYAC Championship in the event two weeks earlier. Tabbed a Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, the English major owns a 3.94 grade point average entering his senior year. McAneny finished an All-American fifth in the 3,000 (8:17.12) at the NCAA Indoor Championships after crossing an All-American 24th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The 2019 SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Runner of the Year and the 2018 SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year swept SUNYAC Men's Cross Country and Men's Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as well.
McGuigan was voted an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Second-Team All-Empire Region honoree as well as a First-Team All-SUNYAC defender. The biology major with a 3.74 grade point average anchored the top scoring defense in the SUNYAC that only allowed 8.90 goals per game and finished first with 14.16 caused turnovers per game. McGuigan finished the season third in the conference with 1.88 caused turnovers per game and fourth with 2.63 ground balls per game, including a career-high nine ground balls and a season-high four caused turnovers in Geneseo's 13-11 victory at Brockport (Apr. 17). She helped the Knights finish with a 14-5 record, including a 9-0 SUNYAC mark for the first time in program history, and their first SUNYAC Championship game appearance since 2014.
