GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo men's track & field senior Chris Walter, women's basketball senior McKenna Brooks and men's ice hockey senior Devin McDonald were each named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Athlete of the Week in their respective sports.
Walter won the long jump at the Houghton December Classic, Friday, with the seventh-best mark (7.03m/23' 0.75") mark in Division III this season.
Brooks propelled the Knights to a pair of conference wins over the weekend averaging 23.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. In a win over Potsdam on Friday, Brooks scored 21 and pulled eight rebounds to go with three blocks, a steal and an assist. Against Plattsburgh, Brooks netted 26 points, tying a Geneseo program record by going 14-for-14 from the foul line, added 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. She currently ranks eighth in the conference with 12.5 points per game and third in the league with 8.9 rebounds per game.
McDonald made a season-high 28 saves in a 4-0 decision over visiting Brockport on Friday as the Knights notched their program-record ninth-consecutive victory. McDonald has not allowed a goal in over three games as Geneseo strung together three-straight shutouts for the first time in the 44-year history of the program. McDonald currently ranks second in Division III with a 0.84 goals against average and a .957 save percentage.
