Women's Cross Country Takes 2nd At 37th-Annual Mike Woods Invite

MT. MORRIS, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior Elise Ramirez finished second to lead the No. 4 Knights to second place out of 15 teams at the 37th-Annual Mike Woods Invitational, Saturday, at the Letchworth State Park Highbanks Recreation Area. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Ramirez covered the six-kilometer course with a time of 21:32.7, only trailing individual champion Jenny Bottomly (21:27.0) from Laurentian, a Canadian university from Ontario. 
  • Senior Kristen Homeyer placed fifth with a time of 21:58.3 
  • Junior Allie Fernandez placed eighth (22:06.3) followed by sophomore Genny Corcoran in ninth (22:24.2) and sophomore Annibel Coolican in 14th (22:30.2) to close out the Knights' top-five. 
  • A Geneseo Alumni team finished first in the field of 15 teams, led by Marissa Cossaro '17 in third (21:33.5), Jacquie Huben'16 in fourth (21:55.9), Cassie Goodman '15 in sixth (22:03.8) and Sara Rosenzweig '17 in seventh (22:05.7).

WHAT'S NEXT 

The Knights will take a week off before returning to action at the Cowbell Classic, hosted by Principia (Ill.), on Saturday, Oct. 14. The course will also be the site of the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship.
