GLASSBORO, N.J. - SUNY Geneseo senior Marissa Cossaro finished ninth out of 386 runners to lead the Knights to third-place out of a strong field of 46 teams at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan (N.J.).
The Knights, which came into the meet ranked first nationally for the third-straight week, totaled 136 points, finishing behind No. 4 Johns Hopkins (70) and No. 2 MIT (134). No. 14 Ithaca placed fourth (211) followed by No. 23 Oneonta (263), No. 28 Otterbein (273), No. 11 RPI (296), No. 21 Emory (304), No. 19 Allegheny (317) and No. 29 Stevens (32) to round out the top-10 team finishers. No. 12 St. Lawrence (11th, 339), No. 15 Carleton (12th, 353) and No. 25 Haverford (15th, 388) also competed.
Stevens' senior Amy Regan paced the field with a 20:17.6 clocking as Cossaro crossed the finish line with a time of 21:06.9 followed by Knights' classmate Sara Rosenzweig in 10th (21:08.8).
Sophomore Allison Fernandez closed out the Geneseo top-five with a 52nd-place finish (22:09.1) while senior Kelly Flanagan came across 53rd (22:10.1) and junior Kristen Homeyer ended up 61st (22:15.9).
Geneseo will take a two-week hiatus before hosting the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Letchworth State Park.
