GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo men's track & field senior Gillan Faulkner along with women's track & field seniors Elise Ramirez and Shayna Held each earned State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Athlete of the Week honors, announced Monday.
Faulkner was named SUNYAC Track Athlete of the Week after he won the 800 at the Highlander Invitational, Friday. Already ranked fourth in Division III with a time from December (1:53.39), his winning time last week (1:55.68) would also rank in the top-15. Faulkner also added a leg to the Knights' 4x400 relay that posted the 27th-fastest time (3:24.28) in the nation this winter.
Ramirez earned SUNYAC Track Athlete of the Week after she won the mile (5:04.81) and later finished second in the 3,000 (10:21.17) at the Houghton Highlander Invitational, Friday. Her mile time currently ranks eighth in Division III, while her 3,000 time is 30th.
Held was tabbed SUNYAC Field Athlete of the Week with a win in the long jump at the Highlander Invitational, Friday, with the sixth-best mark (5.59m/18' 4.25") in Division III this winter. She also finished third in the 200 (26.74) with a time that currently ranks 10th in the SUNYAC.
The Knights will compete again on Saturday, Jan. 26, with part of the team headed to Cornell for the Kane Invitational and other team member competing at Utica.
