Popovici Named Atlantic Region Coach Of The Year; 20 Tabbed All-Region

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo track & field head coach Chris Popovici was named the Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year while 20 members of his men's and women's squads were named All-Atlantic Region in 34 events, announced this week.

Popovici was named the top women's coach in the region for the second time after also being recognized following the 2017 outdoor season. He recently led the Knights women to victory at the inaugural All-Atlantic Region Championships last Saturday, while the men tied for second. The fourth-year coach also led Geneseo to a sweep of this winter's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Championships for the second-straight season.

Eleven women were named All-Region in 21 events, including junior Shayna Held in the 60 hurdles, long jump, pentathlon and 4x400 relay. Senior Camille Wutz garnered All-Region honors in the 60-meter dash, long jump and 4x400 relay.

Nine men garnered 13 All-Region citations, led by senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani in the mile, 3,000 and distance medley relay.

A group of 17 Knights will be competing at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday (March 9-10), hosted at the Birmingham (Ala.) Crossplex.
