Women's Track & Field Opens 2017-18 Campaign

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's track & field team kicks off the 2017-18 campaign at the Brockport Early Season Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Fourth-year head coach Chris Popovici welcomes back a strong group of returners that will be in the hunt to defend both of their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor and Outdoor Championships this season. 

Senior Camille Wutz returns after a junior campaign highlighted by an All-American eighth-place finish in the long jump at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships while also posting the nation's top mark in the event (6.13m/20'1.5") during the year. Also the defending SUNYAC Champion in the indoor 60-meter dash and the outdoor 100-meter dash, she added a leg to Geneseo's All-American 4x100 relay that finished seventh (47.71). 

Senior Lauren Bamford returns for her final year after finishing ninth in the 400 hurdles and running a leg on the All-American 4x100 relay at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, along with junior returner Hannah Madden. Junior Erin MacDougall will look for a repeat performance after sweeping the indoor 60-meter hurdles title as well as the outdoor 100-meter hurdles title. 

Junior Shayna Held looks to improve on and All-American fifth-place effort in the heptathlon after compiling a school-record 4,651 points last spring. 

Junior Elise Ramirez headlines Popovici's returners in the distance events, looking to defend her SUNYAC outdoor 5,000-meter title as well as her indoor 3,000 championship. 

The 2017-18 winter schedule will be highlighted by the SUNYAC Championships on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24 at Brockport leading up to the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Birmingham Southern at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala. (March 9-10). Geneseo is scheduled to kick off the outdoor season by hosting the Geneseo Invitational (March 31) while also welcoming the rest of the league to campus for the 2018 SUNYAC Outdoor Championships (May 4-5). The NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships will be hosted by Wisconsin-La Crosse (May 24-26).
