GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's and women's track & field teams each made significant jumps in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings, released Tuesday. The Knights' women climbed 15 spots into the top-10 for a No. 8 ranking while the men advance 10 spots to No. 19.
The women are led by senior Alexa Wandy, who currently ranks second nationally in the triple jump (40 feet, 2 1/4 inches - 12.25m) as well as eighth in the long jump (18-6 - 5.64m), while sophomore Elise Ramirez stands sixth in the 5,000 (17:16.48).
Two Geneseo relays have also posted top-10 times this winter. The distance medley relay team comprised of seniors Mackenzie Ross and Marissa Cossaro, along with junior Lauren Bamford and sophomore Allison Fernandez are ranked sixth (12:13.86), while Ross, Wandy, Bamford and junior Camille Wutz are 10th in the 4x400 (3:58.23).
On the men's front, junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani stands second in the mile (4:08.53) while sophomore Gillan Faulkner is 10th in the 800 (1:54.46). The duo, along with sophomores Zachary Hannahoe and John Ripa, rank third in the distance medley relay (10:02.32) while Faulkner, Hannahoe, senior Connor Christian and junior Dylan Switzer are 12th in the 4x400.
Both teams will be in action at this Saturday (Feb. 18) at the Golden Eagles Invitational, hosted by Brockport. The meet will serve as a tune-up for the SUNYAC Championships a week later (Feb. 25), also to be hosted by Brockport.
