Tennis Poised For NCAA Tournament Matchup Against Farmingdale State

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team will travel to Middlebury, Vt. on Friday to take part in their sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament, battling Farmingdale State in the first round at 4:00 p.m.

The Knights earned the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) automatic-qualifying bid with the conference championship in October, and will face the Skyline Conference Champion Rams in the NCAA First Round.

Geneseo owns a 5-2 mark in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, including victories in each of the last three years. In 2014 and 2015, the Knights earned opening round victories over Elizabethtown College and last season took down Ithaca in their first match of the tournament.

Four Knights return from last year's postseason starting lineup, while junior Anika Pornpitaksuk owns wins in each of the past two postseasons and senior Maggie Hale has posted postseason victories in 2014 and 2016, both at third doubles.

FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS (15-4, Skyline Champions)
The Rams (15-4) punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a 5-2 victory over St. Joseph's-L.I. for the Skyline Conference Championship and the conference's automatic bid. Farmingdale State has face a pair of SUNYAC teams this season, falling to both Plattsburgh and Oneonta with identical 7-2 scores.

The Rams have been to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past four years, but have gone 0-3 in the first round. Last season, Farmingdale State came up short against Gwynedd-Mercy College, 5-3. In the two years previous, the team fell to Endicott College in the opening round.

Seniors Michelle Fredericks, Tatiana Rosamalia, Priscilla Signore and Olivia Stauffer have each been members of all four NCAA Tournament teams for the Rams, combining for a 3-11 mark in postseason matches.
