Women's Tennis Comes Up Short At St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore Nina Lurie earned a comeback victory at sixth singles to take down the Knights' only point as the team fell to St. Lawrence, 8-1, in its final regular season tune-up of the spring.

Lurie dropped her first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, but came back with a commanding 6-1 second set win to force a third set super-tiebreaker. The sophomore took carried momentum from the second set into the super-tiebreaker earning a 10-2 victory to take the point. Sophomore Vanessa Lam-Tran battled back from a first set loss to force a third set superbreaker at third singles, but fell at the flight, 10-6.

In doubles play, juniors Anika Pornpitaksuk and Lauren Salzano nearly took down another point for the Knights, but fell 8-7 (7-2).

Geneseo moves to 11-8 on the season and will await its NCAA Tournament First Round matchup after earning the SUNYAC Championship and automatic qualifying bid in the fall.
