ITHACA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Nancy Nasky finished first in the 1650 free, earning an NCAA B Standard in the event as the 13th-ranked Knights placed second out of 11 teams in the Ithaca Winter Invitational, hosted by Ithaca over the weekend.
Nasky finished the 1650 in 17:12.13, the seventh-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season, eclipsing the NCAA B Standard by more than 20 seconds. She also swam to a second-place finish in the 500 free, finishing in 5:01.30, and a fourth-place finish in the 200 free (1:55.50). Sophomore Lauren Siegel earned three top-five finishes, placing third in the 200 IM (2:08.99) and the 400 IM (4:35.95) while taking fifth in the 200 back (2:07.37). Senior Sydney Ng added a pair of runner-up finishes, taking second in the 200 free with a time a 1:54.44, and setting a Geneseo program record in the 200 back, finishing at 2:03.82. Ng also placed fourth in the 100 back, touching up at 59.24.
Sophomore Deidra Osula finished second in the 50 free, turning in a program record performance of 23.78 and then teamed with Ng, and sophomores Noelle Staso and Kelly Lennon to place second in the 400 free relay (3:33.64). Sophomore diver Alyssa Vadala took second-place in the three-meter dive with an 11-dive score of 417.75 as well.
Geneseo finished with 1,401 points, trailing only NCAA Division I Cornell, while beating out the rest of a talented field that included regional rivals Rochester and host Ithaca as well as NCAA Division II competitors Le Moyne and Shippensburg.
Geneseo will swim again on January 19 when they host Case Western Reserve in a dual meet.
