Women's Soccer Falls to Johns Hopkins, 2-0, in NCAA Tournament Sweet 16

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -  Taking just their second loss of the season, the SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team fell, 2-0, to Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament third round on Saturday afternoon at Cole Field. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Knights fell behind in the 11th minute of play, when Hopkins forward Riley O'Toole buried a shot from 12 yards out to take a 1-0 lead. 

Geneseo nearly tied the game moments later, but senior midfielder Leah Greene's shot in the 18th minute was saved by the Blue Jays' goalkeeper.

In the second half, Johns Hopkins added an insurance goal when O'Toole rattled a shot in off the crossbar in the 59th minute.

The Knights pushed forward in the final minutes, and junior forward Ashley Byrne managed a shot on goal, but the Hopkins keeper came up with the save once again.

Geneseo finishes the campaign with an 18-2-2 record, tying the program mark for most wins in a season.

The Knights advanced to the NCAA Tournament third round for the second time in program history, joining the 1993 squad as the only groups to accomplish the feat.

The team will graduate senior forward Audrey Reid and senior midfielder Leah Greene. Reid graduates 14th all-time in career points (61) while Greene graduates 11th with 66 career points.
