GENESEO N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Emily Green scored on Senior Day to lift the Knights over visiting Plattsburgh, 3-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Saturday.
With the victory, Geneseo clinched the second seed and a first-round bye for the SUNYAC tournament. The Knights will host a semifinal match on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 1:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
Geneseo (8-2-5, 6-1-2 SUNYAC) scored the lone goal of the first half in the 37th minute. First-year midfielder Domenica Piccoli played a pass into the box from the left sideline to the feet of Green. She controlled the ball and shot with her left foot into the top right corner of the net.
The Knights made it a 2-0 game in the 70th minute. After a Geneseo corner kick taken by sophomore midfielder Ashley Byrne deflected off Plattsburgh (10-8, 5-4 SUNYAC) junior goalkeeper Taylor Adams, first-year back Taylor Clar finished into the middle of the net, tallying her first collegiate goal.
Junior forward Audrey Reid scored the Knights' final goal in the 73rd minute. Senior midfielder Carolanne Murphy beat her marker on the right sideline and played a cross into the box. Reid got on the end of the cross and scored with her left foot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
Unbeaten in its last five outings, Geneseo has only conceded a single goal in its last seven matches.
