Womens Soccer Defeats Fredonia 4-0

GENESEO N.Y. – A winning goal from senior midfielder Erin O'Connor helped Geneseo defeat visiting Fredonia 4-0 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference match, Saturday.

Geneseo (3-1-3, 1-1 SUNYAC) opened the scoring in the 25th minute through O'Connor. She was assisted on the play by first-year midfielder Domenica Piccoli, who led the Knights counter attack and put in a cross in between two defenders. O'Connor scored with her right foot into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The Knights scored again in the 62nd minute through senior midfielder Laurie Knapp. Knapp cut across the box and finished with her right foot into the bottom right corner of the goal.

The home team scored their second goal of the second half in the 69th minute through the foot of sophomore back Jennifer Moran. Moran was in the right place at the right time when a Piccoli shot was saved by Fredonia sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Owczarzak. The ball deflected off of Owczarzak and right into the path of Moran, who shot under the keeper for the goal.

Senior midfielder Carolanne Murphy made the score 4-0 over Fredonia (2-7, 0-2 SUNYAC) in the 82nd minute. The ball fell to her on the right side of the six-yard box, and she scored into the top net.

The Knights return to action on Friday (Sept. 30th) as they visit SUNYAC rival Oneonta at 3:00 pm.
