GENESEO N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior back Meaghan Johnston scored a goal, as the Knights tied the visiting Farmingdale State, 1-1.
Farmingdale opened the scoring in the 12th minute. A corner kick was taken by sophomore midfielder Destiny Pomorico dropped a corner kick into the box where sophomore back Jordan Martin headed the ball towards goal. Sophomore forward Kimberly LiVecchi, who was waiting on the goal line, scored from close range.
Geneseo drew back level in the 37th minute. A cross was put in by sophomore midfielder Ashley Byrne after her initial corner kick came back to her. She looped in a high arcing cross that met the head of Johnston, who had her initial effort repelled by Farmingdale first year keeper Daniela Ford. Her save forced the ball off of the left post and back to the feet of Johnston, who tapped in, far post.
The Knight return to action next Friday (Sept. 23), opening State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play opposite visiting Buffalo State at 4:00 pm.
