GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team officially announced the schedule for the 2016 season. Eleventh-year head coach Nate Wiley and the Knights will be in the hunt for their second State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title in three years playing another strong schedule of opponents that includes a six-match homestand in September.
"We are extremely excited by not only the strength of our schedule, but also by the number of home games (8) we have," said Wiley. "Complimenting what will again be a competitive SUNYAC schedule with some solid non-conference opponents should prove beneficial as we hope to get back to the NCAA tournament after missing out last season."
Geneseo will travel to the Flower City Classic to take on host Rochester on Friday, Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m. before squaring off with Union the next day at 11:00 a.m. to kick off the campaign.
Nazareth will pay a visit to College Stadium (Sept. 8) for the first of six-consecutive home games for the Knights. Geneseo will host St. John Fisher (Sept. 10), Houghton (Sept. 15) and Farmingdale (Sept. 18) before starting SUNYAC play opposite visiting Buffalo State (Sept. 23) and Fredonia (Sept. 24).
The Knights will travel to conference foes Oneonta (Sept. 30) and New Paltz (Oct. 1) before traveling to William Smith (Oct. 5).
Geneseo will finish the regular season with five-straight SUNYAC matches, starting with a visit from Brockport (Oct. 8). After a swing through Cortland (Oct. 14) and Oswego (Oct. 15), the Knights will look to head into the postseason following back-to-back home games against Potsdam (Oct. 21) and Plattsburgh (Oct. 22).
The SUNYAC Tournament is slated to commence on Oct. 29 with the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals (Nov. 2) and championship match (Nov. 5) the following week.
