Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away For SUNYAC Win Over New Paltz, 16-5

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior attacker Erin Cregan netted a career-high six goals and dished off an assist as the Knights earned a victory over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe New Paltz, 16-5, on Saturday afternoon.

First-year attacker Tessa Doody added a career-high four goals and an assist while senior midfielder Kathleen DePillo and sophomore midfielder Carly Cullen netted two goals apiece. Junior defender Karen Boronczyk finished with three caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls. Sophomore goalkeeper Tess McFadden made a pair of saves to earn the win in net. 

The Knights scored the first two goals of the game, holding the Hawks scoreless of the first 15:51. After a New Paltz goal, Geneseo netted two more goals to finish the first half and enter the break with a 4-1 lead. 

In the second half, the Hawks applied pressure by cutting the lead to two goals, outscoring the Knights 4-3 over the first 16:58 to make it 7-5 with 13:02 left. From there the Geneseo offense took control, rattling off nine unanswered tallies to close the contest. 

The Knights snap a four-game skid with the win and will return to action on Tuesday, April 11 when the team hosts Buffalo State.
