GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior goalie Claudia Coleates was named a 2016 All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), announced Wednesday.
Landing third-team All-America honors, Coleates finished first in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and 17th nationally with a 6.90 goals against average, while her .508 save percentage ranked second in the league and 32nd in the country.
Coleates also garnered first-team All-Empire Region recognition after being voted a second-team pick in 2015. Transferring to Geneseo after spending two seasons at Division I Canisius, she was named a first-team SUNYAC All-Star as well as SUNYAC All-Tournament team pick during both her campaigns with the Knights.
Coleates is only the third All-American in program history. Midfielder Emily Haggerty '14 and attack Caroline Buonocore '14 received second and third-team certificates, respectivley, following the 2014 season.
Coleates was one of two goalies picked to be a member of the North squad for the IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star game, slated for Saturday, June 4th, at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa.
Geneseo finished with a 12-6 record, including a 6-2 SUNYAC mark that tied the Knights for second in the regular-season standings. Advancing to their 16th SUNYAC Tournament Semifinal appearance in 18 years, the Knights fell to Brockport, 14-8, (May 6) to close the season.
