GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Lauren Corbett and sophomore midfielder Erin Cregan each totaled three goals and an assist to lead the Knights to a 17-8 victory over visiting Oneonta in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Saturday.
With the victory, Geneseo (11-5, 6-2 SUNYAC) closed the regular by clinching the third-seed for the SUNYAC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Oneonta on Tuesday (May 3) at 4:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to play second-seeded Brockport on Friday (May 6) in a game hosted by top-seeded Cortland.
Trailing, 2-1, with 25:10 on the first-half clock after back-to-back Red Dragon (6-10, 3-5 SUNYAC) tallies, four-straight Geneseo goals put the home team on top, 5-2, at 12:34. Sophomore attack Hannah Millich took a shot that just trickled past the Oneonta goalkeeper at 20:36 before Cregan picked up a rebound off a saved shot and scored on a quick flick at 19:20. On the ensuing draw, sophomore midfielder Karen Boronczyk scooped up a draw control and raced toward the Oneonta net to score her first tally of the season just 18 seconds later.
Senior midfielder Liz Felix scored the first of her two goals on the day after finishing a break-out opportunity in transition at 12:34. Oneonta responded just over two minutes later, but Geneseo scored four-consectutive goals to build a 9-3 lead with 1:04 to play in the half.
Oneonta scored with four seconds left in the first half, but the Knights used another 4-0 outburst to start the second half and build a 13-4 lead by the 19:11 mark that put the game out of reach.
Senior goalie Claudia Coleates was credited with 12 saves to earn the victory as she and the other six members of the Class of 2016 - Tara Basile, Meagan Cook, Erin Down, Felix, Bridget Lincoln and Mikaela Van Slyke - were recognized in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
