Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short At No. 9 Brockport, 11-9

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year midfielder Maddie Lee scored four goals while sophomore midfielder Erin Cregan added two goals and an assist, but it was No. 9 Brockport holding off the visiting Knights for an 11-9 victory in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse play, Tuesday.

Geneseo (10-5, 5-2 SUNYAC) opened a 2-1 lead on goals by Lee and junior midfielder Lauren Corbett with 22:57 on the first-half clock. However, the Golden Eagles (13-1, 6-1 SUNYAC) scored six-unanswered goals over the next 18 minutes to build a 7-2 lead with 4:02 left in the half.

Cregan stuck a free-position shot in the back of the Golden Eagle net at 1:44 before senior midfielder Liz Felix found the net at 1:16. Brockport scored with :34.5 left to carry an 8-4 lead into intermission.

Falling behind by five after a Golden Eagle goal at 23:13 of the second half, Geneseo scored three-unanswered, including two free-position goals by Lee around a Cregan marker to pull within two, 9-7, with 17:17 left in regulation.

Brockport got on the board again at 16:16, but back-to back goals by Felix (15:42) and Lee got Geneseo within one, 10-9, with 9:42 on the clock.

However, it was the host squad holding the Knights scoreless the rest of the way while tacking on an insurance goal at 6:37 to seal the win. 

Senior goalie Claudia Coleates was credited with a season-high 12 saves as the Golden Eagles finished the game with a 33-20 advantage in shots.

Geneseo closes out the regular season on Saturday (Apr. 30) hosting Oneonta at 1:00 p.m.
