Women's Lacrosse Downs Fredonia, 8-3, For Eighth-Straight Win

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Liz Felix scored three goals to lead the Knights to a 8-3 victory over visiting Fredonia in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse action, Tuesday. 

Senior attack Erin Down and sophomore midfielder Erin Cregan each added two goals as Geneseo (9-3, 3-0 SUNYAC) picked up its eighth-straight victory. 

Felix opened the scoring with a free-position goal at 24:57 of the first half, before Fredonia answered at 23:28 on a tally by first-year midfielder Monica Van Donsel. 

Geneseo scored three unanswered goals to build a 4-1 lead at halftime. Down dodged from left goal-line extended and buried a short shot with 17:44 on the clock before Felix fired home another free position attempt at 11:08. With 1:37 remaining in the half, senior attack Tara Basile dumped a short pass in the middle during a free-position opportunity to a cutting Cregan, who stuck a quick shot inside the right post. 

Fredonia scored two of the first three goals of the second half to pull within two, 5-3. Senior attack Katie Miller (28:16) and first-year midfielder Samantha Spiess (17:27) sandwiched free-position tallies around a Cregan (22:01) free-position goal to make it a two-goal game, but the Knights held the Blue Devils (5-9, 1-4 SUNYAC) scoreless for the final 17 minutes to clinch the win. 

Down (15:02) and junior midfielder Lauren Corbett (1:36) each scored on free-position attempts before Felix took a Basile pass and dodged from the left for a shot on goal at 1:11 for the game's final score. 

Senior goalie Claudia Coleates was credited with eight saves while Geneseo finished the game with a 26-15 advantage in shots. 

The Knights return to action on Thursday, hosting Cortland at 4:00 p.m.
