BUFFALO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Liz Felix scored two first half goals while junior midfielder Lauren Corbett added two in the second to lead the Knights to a 9-8 victory at Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse action, Wednesday.
Felix scored back-to-back tallies during a three-minute span to stake Geneseo (7-3, 2-0 SUNYAC) to a 2-0 lead with 23:51 on the first-half clock. The Bengals (3-7, 0-2 SUNYAC) cut the lead in half with a tally at 21:26, but Knights' senior attack Erin Down and junior attack Kathleen DePillo scored tallies in a two-minute stretch to put the visitors on top 4-1 with 17:43 left in the half.
Buffalo State used a 3-0 run to knot the game, 4-4, at halftime.
Tallies by first-year midfielder Maddie Lee at 24:25 and sophomore attack Hannah Millich at 17:36 were followed by back-to-back Corbett goals as Geneseo re-built a four-goal edge, 8-4, with 9:52 remaining in regulation.
Buffalo State made it an 8-6 contest with 4:39 on the clock, before sophomore midfielder Erin Cregan notched a goal off a Millich feed at 3:50 for the 9-6 Genseo lead. With less than a minute to play, the Bengals scored twice to pull within one with 36 seconds left in regulation. Cregan won the final draw control as the Knights held on for their sixth-consecutive win.
Geneseo senior goalie Claudia Coleates was credited with a season-high nine saves to preserve the victory as Buffalo State finished with a 22-20 advantage for the game in shots.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, hosting top-ranked and defending national champion Cortland at 3:00 p.m. at College Stadium.
