BUFFALO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior attack Katey Hart totaled five goals and two assists while senior midfielder Emily Haggerty added five goals and one assist to lead the No. 10 Knights to a 21-10 win at Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play at Coyer Field, Tuesday.
Senior attack Caroline Buonocore added four goals and two assists, while senior attack Meredith Weber added three goals and two assists as Geneseo (13-1, 5-1 SUNYAC) scored a season-high for goals en route to its seventh-straight victory.
Buffalo State (7-7, 2-5 SUNYAC) took an early 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of play. Niki Paulhardt scored both of the Bengal goals with a free position shot at 26:22 followed by another tally one minute later.
Geneseo responded with three straight goals in 2:30 of play. Weber put the Knights on the board at 24:07 on a free position shot and a minute later, senior midfielder Kylie Caesar also converted a free position shot to equalize the score, 2-2. At 22:47, sophomore attack Tara Basile took a pass from Buonocore to put Geneseo on top.
The Knights and the Bengals exchanged goals to a 4-4 tie, including a Buonocore goal at 16:23, until a four-goal run put the visitors up for good. Hart, assisted by Weber, started off the run at 12:42, before Haggerty scored consecutive goals at 11:15 and 9:39. Hart added another tally 30 seconds later, assisted by Basile.
Geneseo and Buffalo State continued to alternate goals in the closing four minutes of the first half. Buonocore scored at 2:56, assisted by sophomore midfielder Liz Felix. After another Bengal goal, Hart netted the ball with 00:11. A free position shot by Buffalo State's Kendra Thomas with 00:04 closed out the period with Geneseo leading, 10-7.
The start of the second half included more of the same as the two teams continued to exchange goals. Buonocore scored within the first minute, assisted Felix. Hart followed up at 24:08 to bring the lead to 12-7. A goal by Weber at 21:27 was sandwiched between two Buffalo State goals at 21:50 and 18:30.
Caesar scored her second goal of the game at 18:04, while Weber added her third of the game a minute later. The Bengals scored their last goal of the game at 14:54 on a free position shot by Paulhardt.
The Knights finished the last 11 minutes of the game with six unanswered goals, as Hart, Buonocore and Felix scored one apiece and Haggerty added three.
Geneseo junior goalie Laura Passamonte had six saves on the day.
Geneseo looks to finish off the regular season on a high note with two road games at Brockport on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and New Paltz on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in SUNYAC play.
