POTSDAM, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Emily Haggerty totaled seven points on six goals and an assist to lead the No. 9 Knights to a 19-9 victory at Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse action, Saturday.
Senior attack Caroline Buonocore added two goals and two assists while senior attack Meredith Weber scored three goals to lead Geneseo to its third victory in four days. The Knights defeated SUNYAC-rival Fredonia, 9-8, at home on Wednesday, before picking up a 11-7 victory at St. Lawrence yesterday before today's game.
Weber kicked off a three-goal Knights run in just over three minutes to start the game, before the Bears (4-7, 0-4 SUNYAC) responded with a pair of goals 28 seconds apart to make it a 3-2 game at 25:38.
Geneseo (10-1, 2-1 SUNYAC) would take control with a 6-1 spurt over the next 13 minutes to lead, 9-3, with 11:15 to play in the first half. Weber and Haggerty accounted for two goals apiece during the run.
The teams would trade two goals apiece in the final 10 minutes as the visitors held a 11-5 lead after 30 minutes of play.
Haggerty started and finished a 4-0 Geneseo run to start the second half to extend the lead, 15-5, with 25:08 on the clock. Following back-to-back Potsdam goals, the Knights would answer with three goals of their own, including Haggerty's final tally, to push the lead back to double-digits, 18-7, with 4:37 to play.
Junior goalie Laura Passamonte finished the game with eight saves to pick up the win.
Geneseo kicks off a three-game week on Tuesday with a trip to Brockport for a 4:00 p.m. face-off.
