PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior attack Emily Haggerty scored five goals and added an assist to lead the No. 12 Knights to a 14-4 victory at St. Joseph's (L.I.), Saturday, in the season-opener.
"I thought the team did a great job considering we haven't had a chance to get outside and practice on a full field prior to today's game," said head coach Carly Ritchlin. "We adapted well adn we were able to make the adjustments we needed for the second half. I feel like we are a well-balanced team that is playing really well together this early in the season."
St. Joseph's (1-1) opened the scoring the third minute but Geneseo scored three-unanswered tallies in a three-minute span to take a 3-1 lead at 24:34 it wouldn't relinquish. St. Joseph's would pull within a goal, 3-2, at 11:14, but goals by Haggerty at 7:20, Buonocore at 3:26 and first-year attack Kathleen DePillo at 00:15 staked the visitors to a 6-2 lead at halftime.
Geneseo would move out to a 10-2 lead with four-straight goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to take a command. The Knights finished the game with a 37-11 advantage in shots.
