GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo Women's Basketball head coach Scott Hemer was named Regional Coach of the Year and senior guard Kara Houppert earned an All-East Region Second Team honor from D3hoops.com on Monday.
Hemer led the Knights to a program record 28 wins and an apperance in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 for the second time in three years. The team finished the regular season with an undefeated 25-0 mark, just the second time in program history Geneseo has completed the regular season without a loss. Also named Coach of the Year by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), Hemer directed his squad to its third-straight NCAA Tournament berth. The award marks the second time Hemer has been named D3hoops.com Regional Coach of the Year, also receiving the honor after the 2014-15 season.
Earning an All-East Region Second Team selection, Houppert averaged 9.2 points per game and a team-high 3.5 assists per game. The senior shot 42.9% from behind the arc and posted a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio on the year. She scored a career-high 23 points to propel the Knights to a win over Rochester, 78-72, in the NCAA Tournament Second Round, averaging 11.0 points in five postseason games. Houppert's selection marks the third straight season that a Geneseo student-athlete earned D3hoops.com All-Region honors.
