GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team was ranked No. 23 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III national poll, released Tuesday.
After being listed as receiving votes in the first five polls of the season, the Knights moved into the top-25 for the first time since finishing the 2014-15 campaign with a No. 19 ranking following a run to the NCAA Divison III Tournament Sweet 16 and a SUNYAC Championship. Geneseo was also ranked No. 20 in the first poll of the 2015-16 season.
The Knights are off to the fourth-best winning-streak to start a season in program history after improving to 15-0 with a 62-60 victory over visiting RIT on Tuesday. Geneseo is also unbeaten in the SUNYAC with an 8-0 mark.
A victory opposite visiting Potsdam on Friday (7:30 p.m.) would tie the the 1991-92 team for the third-longest run to start a season undefeated, trailing only the 1992-93 (27) and 1994-95 (20) squads.
Entering the week as one of only 10 undefeated team in Division III, Geneseo has proven to be one of the nation's top defensive squads. The team was ranked fifth in scoring defense, only allowing the opposition to score 46.5 points per game, while also sitting ninth in field goal percentage defense (.313) and 25th in rebounding margin (+9.7).
