Women's Basketball Moves Past Oneonta, 48-40

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo guard Bridgit Ryan totaled 12 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Katie Durand added 12 points to lead the Knights past visiting Oneonta, 48-40, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Saturday. 

Oneonta jumped out to a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, a three-point strike by Durand got Geneseo within four, 19-15, with 4:33 on the clock, but the Red Dragons scored seven unanswered points to take their largest lead of the game, 26-18, with 1:13 remaining in the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by sophomore guard Kelsey Poplawski pulled Geneseo within five, 26-21, at halftime.

In the second half, Geneseo out-scored Oneonta, 11-3, in the third quarter to take a 32-29 edge heading into the final period. Clinging to a 37-36 lead with 3:21 remaining in regulation, a three-pointer by senior guard Kara Houppert keyed a 5-0 run that gave the Knights a six-point edge, 42-36, with 1:28 remaining. Geneseo would connect on all six of its free-throw attempts in the final minute to seal the eight-point win. 

Geneseo will return to action next week with a pair of SUNYAC contests on Friday (Nov. 9) at Potsdam and Saturday (Nov. 10) at Plattsburgh. The games are slated to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
