Moore's Complete-Game Effort Leads Knights Past Oswego, 4-2, in SUNYAC Tournament

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior pitcher Taylor Moore notched a season-high six strikeouts in a complete-game effort and senior outfielder Claire VanNewkirk drove in a pair of runs to lead the Knights to a 4-2 victory over Oswego on day two of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament on Saturday morning at Raschi Field. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Geneseo took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, taking advantage of an Oswego error to extend the inning. VanNewkirk and junior catcher Taylor Fedor each hit RBI singles to give the hosts an early lead.

Oswego tied the game in the third inning with a pair of RBI doubles, but junior pitcher Taylor Moore worked out of the jam and kept the game locked at 2-2.

In the fourth inning, Geneseo took the lead for good, scoring a pair of runs on three hits and an error. Junior outfielder Alyssa Persich came in on an Oswego error and VanNewkirk laced an RBI double to the left-center gap to drive in junior infielder Anna Merante, giving the Knights the lead, 4-2.

Moore shut down the Oswego bats the rest of the way to record her 11th win of the year.

QUICK FACTS

Geneseo scored all four runs with two outs, and posted three two-out hits on the day.

Moore's season-high six strikeouts also raised her career total to 120 punchouts, moving into 11th in program history. 

VanNewkirk drove in her 20th and 21st RBI of the season, a career-high and a team-high.
