GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore pitcher Taylor Moore twirled a complete game while seniors Abby Dennett and Alyssa Presutti each had a pair of hits as the Knights fell to Plattsburgh in a pair of conference losses on Sunday afternoon, 1-0 and 10-4.
Moore tossed a complete game, holding the Cardinals to just one run on five hits, but received no run support as the Geneseo offense was shut down. Sophomore Danni Napoli and Presutti provided the only hits of the game for the Knights as they fell, 1-0.
Geneseo plated the first run of the game on a baserunning play and a Plattsburgh error in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals responded with a grand slam in the top of the second to make it 4-1, and added three more runs in the third to take a 7-1 lead.
Presutti led off the Geneseo half of the inning with a double and came around to score three batters later on a sacrifice fly by first-year Maddison Tucker. Napoli reached on a single and was driven in on a single by first-year Ashlyn Kersch. After a single by first-year Brooke Wolff, Kersch stole home with another well-executed baserunning play to make it 7-4.
The Knights couldn't muster any more offense as the Cardinals tacked on three runs to earn the victory and the sweep. Sophomore Alyssa Persich saw her first action on the rubber, allowing a pair of runs in 3.2 innings of relief.
Geneseo will look to bounce back on Monday with a pair of games against conference foe Potsdam, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
