No. 2 Men's Cross Country Defends Title At Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – SUNY Geneseo senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani finished first out of 324 runners to lead the No. 2 men's cross country team to first place out of 26 teams at the Purple Valley Classic, hosted by Williams at Mt. Greylock High School, Saturday. It was the second-straight season both Garcia-Cassani and the Knights took titles at the invitational. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Garcia-Cassani covered the 8,000-meter course with a time of 25:50.2, defeating runner-up Grant O'Connor from RPI (26:04.2) by 14 seconds. 
  • Senior Alexander Burks was the Knights's second finisher, logging a fifth-place effort with a time of 26:12.3. 
  • Senior Connor Pulvidente notched a top-10 finish, crossing eighth in 26:32.1

QUICK FACTS 

  • The field included several nationally and regionally ranked teams. Williams was fourth nationally, followed by No. 6 MIT, No. 12 Amherst, No. 13 RPI, No. 19 Middlebury and No. 35 Dickinson.
  • Tufts was also seventh in the New England poll, while Hamilton (No. 6), St. Lawrence (No. 8) and Vassar (No. 10) also entered the week ranked in the Atlantic Region poll. Geneseo was ranked first in the Atlantic Region while Williams was ranked first in New England.

Geneseo hosts the Mike Woods Invitational next Saturday (Sept. 3) at 11:00 a.m. at Letchworth State Park's Highbanks Recreational Area.
