Men's Cross Country Wins Third-Straight SUNYAC Championship

MT. MORRIS, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani and senior Alfredo Mazzuca ran to a 1-2 finish, respectively, for the second year in a row to lead the men's cross country team to the 2016 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship, Saturday, hosted by Geneseo at Letchworth State Park.

Geneseo captured seven of the top 11 spots to take the title with 23 points as Oneonta (62), Fredonia (94), Oswego (100) and Cortland (148) rounded out the top-five. This is the Knights' third-straight championship and seventh in the last eight years.

Garcia-Cassani covered the eight-kilometer course in a winning time of 24:54.1, while Mazzuca was close behind with a 25:05.8 clocking.

Senior Alex Kramer took third place (25:22.4) followed by senior Travis Briggs in eighth (25:43.8) and junior Alexander Burks in ninth (25:44.2).

Junior Connor Pulvidente crossed the finish line in 10th (25:44.5) and before sophomore Luke Holtzman ended up 11th (25:49.3) to round out the team's top-seven runners.

Geneseo's 15th championship is now the most SUNYAC men's cross country titles in the 54-year history of the race.

The Knights will next run in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals in two weeks (Nov. 12) hosted by Rowan in Glassboro, N.J.
