GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Men's Athlete of the Week, Monday. It is the second time this season he has landed the honor.
Garcia-Cassani finished first out of 383 runners to lead the Knights to first-place out of 46 teams at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan (N.J.). He crossed the finish line with a winning time of 23:19.9, nearly eight seconds ahead of the field, to win his fourth-consecutive race.
The Knights, which came into the meet ranked first nationally for the third-straight week, totaled 71 points to out-distance No. 5 MIT (127), No. 11 RPI (168), No. 20 Haverford (184) and No. 18 NYU (216) in the top-five. No. 13 St. Lawrence (6th, 277), No. 25 Emory (7th, 297), No. 21 Johns Hopkins (10th, 319), No. 27 Oneonta (9th, 305) and No. 34 Allegheny (14th, 384) were also in the field.
Garcia-Cassani and the Knights will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 29, hosting the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships at Letchworth State Park. Racing is set to start at 11:00 a.m.
