GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani and senior Sara Rosenzweig were named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively. The duo was honored after leading the Knights to a pair of top finishes at the Purple Valley Classic last Saturday.
Garcia-Cassani finished first in a stacked field of 284 runners, pulling away down the stretch to finish with a winning time of 25:24.9 and lead a pack of four Knights that finished in the top-10. Including Geneseo, the field included eight nationally ranked teams (four in the top-10), as well as 12 regionally-ranked squads from around the East.
Rosenzweig finished sixth out of 278 runners in the women's race, covering the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:19.4 as the Knights bested a field that included defending national champion Williams, which entered the week as the top-ranked team in the nation. All told, 10 nationally-ranked squads were in the field, including six of the top-10 in the country.
Both squads will be in action this Saturday, hosting the 36th-Annual Mike Woods Cross Country Invitational at Letchworth State Park. The men's race is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start, followed by the women's gun at 12:00 p.m.
