GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's and women's cross country teams were both ranked second by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in their respective preseason Division III polls, released Wednesday.
The women return six runners from last year's top-seven that led the Knights to second place at the NCAA Division III Championships last fall, including seniors Sara Rosenzweig and Marissa Cossaro.
Geneseo was also picked first in the regional poll and will be in contention for its second-straight Atlantic Region title as well as a fifth-consecutive State University of New York (SUNYAC) crown.
The men also welcome back five of their top-seven runners from a squad that finished third at the NCAA Championships for the program's highest finish ever. Junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani is back after a season that included an All-American eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships and a pair of first-place finishes at the Atlantic Region and SUNYAC Championships.
Seniors Travis Briggs, Alfredo Mazzuca and Alex Kramer also return as the Knights which were also ranked first in the preseason Atlantic Region poll, will be in the running for back-to-back Atlantic Regional Championships as well as a third-straight SUNYAC title.
Geneseo is slated to kick the season off at the Cardinal Early Season Invitational, hosted by St. John Fisher, on Friday (Sept. 2).
