GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore Isaac Garcia-Cassani was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Male Track Athlete of the Week, Monday in recognition of a record-setting weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell.
Garcia-Cassani ran the nation's fastest 1,500 time of the year, broke a five-year old SUNYAC record and added a leg to a record-setting relay.
One of only two Division III runners competing in the fourth and final heat of the Invite section of the 1,500 on Saturday night, Garcia-Cassani posted a 3:45.71 clocking to finish seventh out of 16 runners, finishing less than four seconds behind the winner. He was the top Division III finisher in the event.
The time broke the SUNYAC mark set by Fredonia's Nick Guarino (3:47.57) in 2011 by almost two seconds, while also establishing a Geneseo program record as well.
On Sunday, Garcia-Cassani ran the third leg on the Knights' victorious 4x800 relay that posted a winning time of 7:42.62. The time broke an 11-year old program record by over seven seconds.
