Men's Swimming & Diving Grabs First at Geneseo Invitational

BUFFALO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior Mitchell Phelps was victorious in the 100 backstroke on Saturday, helping the Knights to secure a first-place finish at the Geneseo Invitational.

Phelps won the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.06 and took second in the 100 freestyle (48.41). He was a member of the second-place 200 medley relay team (1:36.32) and the third-place 200 freestyle relay team (1:28.26). First-year Sean McClellan had a solid meet, winning the 200 IM (2:02.54), and taking second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.76) and 200 butterfly (2:01.51). First-year Corey Wirth was victorious in both one-meter (315.45) and three-meter (328.95) diving.

First-year Kyle Barry finished second in the 400 IM (4:27.98) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:05.93). Junior John Wilson won the 100 butterfly (52.99), while senior Clark Davis won the 200 butterfly (2:00.26). First-year James Wun was a double winner, coming in at 1:01.41 in the 100 breaststroke and at 2:15.70 in the 200 breaststroke.

Geneseo finished with a total of 770 points, nearly 100 points more than second-place Nazareth. 

The Knights swim again February 9 at the Bomber Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College.
