Five Knights Compete On Day One Of NCAA Regional Diving Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. - Fve SUNY Geneseo divers competed on the first day of the NCAA Division III Region 4 Championships, hosted by Ithaca. Senior Samuel Randall finished second in the men's 3-meter competition while sophomore Samantha Reichman ended up second in the women's 1-meter event to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships later this month. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Randall ended the 3-meter event with a score of 528.90 to qualify for his fourth-consecutive NCAA Division III Championship. 
  • Reichman compiled a score of 454.90 to punch her first ticket to the NCAA Championships. 
  • First-year Alyssa Vadala placed seventh (427.35) followed by senior Emily Reiter in ninth (397.85).
  • First-year Kiersten Coates ended the afternoon 24th (322.15). 

WHAT'S NEXT

The women's field of 27 divers is vying for eight berths in the NCAA Championships, as the top-four finishers in Friday's 1-meter competion automatically qualified. The top-four finishers in Saturday's 3-meter competition that did not finish in Friday's top-four will also advance. 

The men's field of 19 competitors is competing for six slots in the NCAA Championships, with the top-three finishers from Friday's 3-meter event automatically qualifying along with the top-three finishers in Saturday's 1-meter event that did not finish in Friday's top-three. 

Day-two action will resume on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
